CHRISTINE BOWEN

Christine Bowen lives and practices from her gallery in Kenmare, Co. Kerry, Ireland. Based in Dublin she worked in interior design until 1987 when she then commenced a fine art course culminating in a B.A Hons Art degree from Belfast College in 1994. Christine’s work is influenced by history, archaeology and poetry, in particular W.B Yeats, Lorca and Cohen. Flora and fauna are also signatures found in her work.

These elements are used as structures to develop colour and form in repetitive sequences and series. What sets her apart from so many other artists who are drawn to this area is her resistance to cliché. She avoids the panoramic landscape, preferring to distil a ‘sense of place’ by focusing on more intimate subjects – a swarm of bees, a stray sheep, the glimmer of fish below the surface of the water, treating these with refreshing originality.
